Sorry for the blog-pause. I’ve been on the road non-stop from here to the other side of the planet – updates about all that soon!
So, my video for the single Passionflower went pretty crazy – to date it’s on about 2.5 million views on youtube, another million or so on youku (the Chinese youtube) and who knows how many views on other dodgy video websites.
I’ve since found out that part of this explosion was down to a single man called Pete from Blackburn, UK, whom I’ve never met, but who loved the song and went about sharing it on every site he could find, particularly Reddit. Thanks Pete, you legend. :)
After he did that, various celebrities cottoned on and some really got behind it. Stephen Fry said “Wow!” and twitter went mental. I ended up on BBC Breakfast, trying nervously to chat and perform on 3 hours sleep in front of a bleary-eyed audience of millions:
Then the lovely Mr Fry went on the One Show on BBC1 and talked about me some more:
I got some unexpected and wonderful emails: David Crosby from Crosby, Stills and Nash dropped me a line to say he loved music. He signed off simply “The Croz.” Jon Anderson, the singer from Yes, said he wants to record a song with me – I am working on something. And Rod Stewart’s producer asked me to play a track on his next album – I’m still thinking if I can make that one work, but it’s fantastic to be asked of course. Tommy Lee – Motley Crue drummer and home-video star (and super-talented songwriter too) – is a big fan. Try to imagine two more contrasting celebrities than Stephen Fry and Tommy Lee. Try, for example, to imagine Tommy Lee playing Oscar Wilde. Actually, that would be awesome.
Possibly my favourite was from Steven Miller, who was the good friend and producer of my personal guitar hero, Michael Hedges. To get real, meaningful praise and respect from him was very special indeed.
But a video going viral isn’t about celebrities, it’s about every single person who watched, enjoyed and shared the video, so if that includes you – THANKYOU!
Cheers and please (please!) keep listening,
Jon
