"A masterclass in combining progressive guitar techniques with visionary songwriting." - Guitar World
"This may be the best thing I've heard in years"- Steve Lukather (Toto)
“While The Faintest Idea is first a foremost a songwriting masterclass - with Gomm exploring the beauty and pain of life’s travails - it hasn’t stopped him casually ripping up accepted truths of acoustic technique along the way, with a slew of sounds-like-six-hands guitar parts.” -Guitarist magazine
“Ghostly synths float in the background but it’s what the man does with his fingers that takes centre stage. He uses all that skill to create emotively powerful music. Beautiful.”- Backseat Mafia
"Beautiful... concept, execution, art... MUSIC... words, drawings the whole package" - David Crosby (Crosby Stills & Nash)
“There is more to Jon Gomm than just the flash and bang of his staggering guitar technique. There is a fragile emotion behind these songs, revealed in lyrics that tackle universal, existential themes." - Rich Barnard
“Gomm’s songwriting elevates him way beyond instrumental virtuoso and reveals an artist whose songs are more than capable of connecting emotionally.”- Red Guitar Music
11 tracks finding new emotional depths, setting Jon's intimate acoustic performances in immense melodic pop landscapes.
The Faintest Idea’s title is based on the notion that all of us are fleeting and tiny, but as such we're all the same and interconnected, and so huge and permanent. “There’s a fine line between a metaphor and a pun, so I guess it dances on that” and explores the contrasts between the warmth of Gomm’s acoustic articulation with more icy affairs, thanks to the synth parts and production work from Australian musician Andy Sorenson, together they have created a contemporary masterpiece.
Often cited as one of the most naturally gifted acoustic artists of the modern age, Gomm drew inspiration from his own experiences over the last few years. And while there have been moments of joyous celebration, by his own admission there has also been plenty of personal upheaval: “This album has been a long time coming,” he reflects. “I tend to write in a really painstaking way. The last few years of my life have involved a lot of personal trauma, and making this music has got me through it.”
The album is complemented by the delicate hand drawn pen and ink cover art created by Lee Zimmerman.
